Introducing Mr. Brian Tate
(Dr. Gaines' sabbatical replacement)
 Mr. Tate is not new to the MU Percussion Studio but he is taking on a new role this semester as Dr. Gaines' teaching replacement while she is on her first Faculty Development Leave (sabbatical). As an MU alum, a seasoned teacher, and current adjunct faculty, he is well prepared for this job. He is also the primary percussion instructor at Rock Bridge High School and teaches several music classes at Moberly Area Community College. As the regular timpanist for the Missouri Symphony Orchestra and a frequent performer on Odyssey Chamber Music Series concerts, his performing skills are broad and excellent. For the Spring 2013 semester, he'll be teaching all the Applied percussion lessons in addition to conducting the University Percussion Ensemble. He'll also be coaching five students through recitals this semester for which Dr. Gaines' is forever grateful!
Dr. Gaines will be doing a lot of traveling this semester as she works on the topic of her Leave. "Investigating How Technology is used in the University Percussion Studio" is her "area to develop" and she will visit universities in Florida, Texas, Louisiana, and Arizona this semester. She's also hoping to read every day and her book list is getting longer by the day. In addition, she's hoping to improve her half-marathon times by doing some more training later in the semester in preparation for a June run.
